According to the folks at Autocar the next-gen GTI will come with some electric assistance to boost power and cut fuel consumption. Although already the ideal hot-hatch, an integrated starter motor with boost mode and an electrically operated compressor replacing the turbo will increase the current 2.0L’s output to 260hp.
To help combat the increase in weight, the MQB platform it’s built on will include more lightweight materials, helping to preserve the driving dynamics the little go-kart is known for. These upgrades are expected to filter their way through all vehicles built on this platform.
More aggressive styling is expected to come with the update, as well as a host of interior upgrades reflective of where Volkswagen will be at the time.
