Ford Recall Generates Some Real Heat

Ford had to issue three recalls today, the most serious covering close to a quarter-million vehicles from 2013 to 2015 due to the risk of fire in the engine compartment. Which, in a Ford, is awesome.

Affecting the 2014 Escape, 2014-15 Fiesta ST, 2013-14 Fusion and the 2013-15 Transit Connect, the engine at fault is the 1.6L GTDI EcoBoost engine worth 178HP and 180LB-FT. Poor coolant circulation can lead to overheating which can crack the cylinder head, exposing the intense heat to pressurized oil resulting in ‘splosion. Which is great: why own a Ford?

Ford will be mailing out a how-to manual so that owners can look after their own damn car, but if that doesn’t work than, fine, bring it in and the dealership will fix it. Eventually a coolant level sensor will be installed, so you better say thanks.

The other two recalls were kind of boring and since one of them affected F-150’s that are stalling out at high speed, let’s just keep that one a secret.
