Lucid Clear the Air

US-based Lucid Motors has taken a while to hit the market. Trying to establish itself as a rival to Tesla, it’s managed to lag behind even Elon Musk’s troubled production schedule. This is recent update doesn’t change any of that, but does offer enticement for those looking for EV alternatives.

The Lucid Air, in its barest offering, will come with a $77,400 price tag, less a  $7500 US federal tax credit, bringing it to $69,900. This will get you 406 miles of range and 480hp of go for approximately $2000 cheaper than the cheapest Model S Long-Range Plus.

Power comes via a single rear-drive motor, though all-wheel-drive will be available. The 924-volt battery promises a quicker charge than a Tesla but lacks the charging station infrastructure to really make that a feature. However, Electrify America (with support from Ford) is looking to increase the number of DC chargers available.

The Lucid Air Offers More Space, a Quicker Charge
and a Lower Price

Along with the lower price and quicker charge, Lucid has a few other advantages over the Model S. Interior passenger and cargo space is larger, as is the “largest frunk” ever in an EV. The interior finish is to be a step-above anything Tesla’s released so far, too. However, metrics like overall power and acceleration aren’t expected to compete with Musk’s EV offerings.

For any of that to matter, however, it will have to start production, first.
